Investment Grade, Limited Edition American Buffalo Gold Coin

The American Gold Buffalo was first distributed in 2006 by the United States Mint. This coin is only made in the size of 1 troy ounce, has a face value of $50 USD and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of gold that is 99.99% pure (24 carat).

About the American Buffalo Coin

The American Buffalo coin’s design actually mimics a much older coin, the Buffalo nickel – or Indian Head nickel, which was minted between 1913 and 1938.

Interesting facts about the design:

  • The Native American on the back of the coin is not a particular person, but rather a mix of three Native Americans, including Iron Tail, an Oglala Lakota chief who was well-known in the late 1800s. He was one of the stars of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West shows and was often photographed wearing traditional Native American clothes.
  • The Buffalo Nickel was the first time an animal that wasn’t an eagle was on a United States coin.
  • The first buffalo nickel had a picture of the animal standing on a hill. Later, the hill was flattened to make room for the words “five cents” and protect the coins from wear.

Features of the 1 oz American Buffalo Gold Coin

The American Buffalo is based on the design of the first “Indian Head” or “Buffalo” Nickel, made by James Earle Fraser and first put into circulation in 1913. The front of the coin has a picture of a Native American’s face. Fraser made this picture by combining the faces of three real-life tribal leaders. This side has an engraving of the word “Liberty” and the year it was made.

Interestingly, proof American Buffalo coins have a “W” mint mark just below the largest feather to the left of the portrait. This means that the coin was made at the West Point United States Mint. Though bullion American Buffalo coins are also made at West Point, they don’t have a mark that says where they were made.

The back has a picture of an American Buffalo with the weight, value, and amount of gold on it. The classic buffalo art is based on Black Diamond, a bison who lived in the Central Park Zoo in New York City in the early 1900s. The bison takes up most of the obverse face, which also has engravings of “United States of America,” “E Pluribus Unum,” “In God We Trust,” and the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, and face value.

The American Gold Buffalo has a diameter of 32.7mm, a thickness of 2.95mm, and reeded edges. It weighs 31.1035 grams. As a legal form of payment in the United States, the government guarantees this coin’s weight and purity.

These 1 oz American Gold Buffalo coins are distributed in uncirculated condition and arrive in a plastic case that keeps it safe and secure in transit. Shop today or contact our team if you have any questions.

You’ll receive an email with details, including a tracking link, when we send your order. You can also log into your account to view the order status.

How long will it take for my products to arrive?

Once we receive payment, you’ll be sent an email receipt stating it has been paid for, and your products will be sent out within 1-2 business days. Most payments will have a holding period depending on the payment form. For example, if you pay via check, the holding period for payment clearance can take up to 5 business days. Once your product is shipped, you can expect delivery within 1-3 business days, on average, across the US or Canada. This varies depending on the carrier, time of the year (Christmas post is often slower, for example) and other factors.

Do I need to sign for my package?

If your order is valued at under $1,000, you won’t need to sign for it unless you have chosen this option at checkout. More valuable items will need a signature. If you are not home to accept the delivery, you will receive a notification from the shipping company to make other arrangements.

Does insurance cover my purchase during shipment?

Yes! All packages sent by CanAm Bullion are fully insured so if anything happens enroute to your address, it will be covered provided the Terms and Conditions are met. We will investigate and file a claim if the package is lost or stolen.

What do I do if my package has been tampered with?

Shipping insurance ends the moment you sign for your package, so we recommend you refuse any delivery that looks to have been tampered with. If you refuse the package, it will be sent back to CanAm, and we will follow up. Call our customer service team within 48 hours if your product is damaged.

If your package arrives after we start the claims process, you must let us know right away.

What happens if my order is broken during shipment?

CanAm sends all our bullion products in high quality packaging, so breakages are highly unlikely. However, should this occur, contact our team within 48 hours of delivery, and we will start the claims process with the shipping company.

What happens if my order never arrived, but the courier says it was delivered?

Packages that have been dispatched to the correct address and have been delivered will not be eligible for a refund or insurance claim from CanAm Bullion. You assume full risk and liability for the shipment once it has been delivered (either by signing for it or by us leaving it at the specified delivery address). CanAm Bullion MUST be notified of any shipment issues within two calendar days of recorded delivery.
