Goldbacks made their debut in 2019 with a 5-piece set for Utah. These came shortly after the Utah Legal Tender Act, which resulted in the legalization of gold and silver in Utah. The popularity of these gold notes allowed other states to follow suit such as Nevada, New Hampshire, and Wyoming. South Dakota became the 5th state to issue and accept these gold notes as voluntary currency. This means that you can use these notes in South Dakota as currency, based on the discretion of the vendor.
Each Goldback in the 5 Piece South Dakota Goldback Gold Note Set will arrive in a protective sleeve to preserve the brand-new state of your purchase. This set is the complete South Dakota Goldback set featuring all five denominations offered. This set contains 91/1000th Troy oz of actual gold content.
The obverse of each Goldback in the 5 Piece South Dakota Goldback Gold Note Set will be unique. This set contains five unique Goldbacks, each with a different denomination and each with a different obverse. They each feature the female personification of a virtue. For example, the 50 South Dakota Goldback Gold Note showcases Libertas running into battle with a sword and a shield.
The reverse of each gold note in this set offers a mirrored image of the obverse. The Goldbacks are so thin that any design element present on the reverse would interfere with the obverse design.
